September-The Gentle Power of Crystals
Discovering Nature’s Beautiful Gifts for Wellbeing
Have you ever found yourself drawn to a beautiful crystal without really knowing why?
Perhaps you’ve admired the soft pink glow of Rose Quartz, been captivated by the deep purple of Amethyst, or noticed the sparkle of Clear Quartz catching the light. Whether you see crystals as beautiful natural treasures or meaningful keepsakes, they have fascinated people for thousands of years.
At Lynne’s Zen Room, crystals form part of my Radiance and Crystal Flow treatments, helping to create a calm and nurturing environment where you can simply relax and enjoy some well-deserved time for yourself.
Many people ask me questions such as:
“Do crystals really work?”
“Which crystal should I choose?”
“How do I use them?”
The truth is that everyone’s experience with crystals is unique. There is no scientific evidence that crystals heal illnesses or cure medical conditions. However, many people find that using crystals as part of a mindful self-care routine helps them feel calmer, more focused, and more connected to themselves. Sometimes the crystal becomes a gentle reminder to pause, breathe and set an intention for the day.
This month’s Thrive Guide explores the world of crystals in a simple and practical way, helping you discover how they can become part of your own wellbeing routine.
A Gift from the Earth
Crystals are naturally occurring minerals that have formed deep within the Earth over thousands, and often millions, of years.
As minerals are exposed to heat, pressure and changing conditions, their atoms arrange themselves into repeating patterns, creating the beautiful crystal structures we see today.
Each crystal is completely unique. Differences in temperature, minerals and the environment during formation give every crystal its own colour, markings and character.
When you hold a crystal, you’re holding something that nature has patiently created over an incredibly long period of time. Many people find that thought alone encourages them to slow down and appreciate the natural world.
A Brief History of Crystals
Crystals have been treasured throughout history by many different cultures.
The Ancient Egyptians wore gemstones as jewellery and symbols of protection.
The Ancient Greeks believed certain crystals brought strength and courage. In fact, the word crystal comes from the Greek word krystallos, meaning ice.
Across Asia, crystals have long been used in meditation and spiritual traditions.
Many Indigenous cultures around the world have honoured stones and minerals as part of ceremonies and their connection with nature.
Today, many people enjoy crystals simply because they encourage mindfulness and provide a tangible reminder to care for themselves.
Why Are People Drawn to Crystals?
There are many reasons why people love crystals.
Some appreciate their natural beauty.
Others enjoy learning about their history.
Many people use crystals during meditation, yoga, or Reiki.
Some like to keep one in their pocket as a reminder to stay calm during a busy day.
Others simply find comfort in holding something smooth and natural while taking a few deep breaths.
Whatever your reason, there is no right or wrong way to enjoy crystals.
The Importance of Intention
One of the most valuable aspects of using crystals isn’t necessarily the crystal itself; it can be the intention you place behind it.
Imagine picking up a Rose Quartz each morning and quietly saying:
“Today I will be kind to myself.”
Or holding a Clear Quartz before beginning an important meeting and reminding yourself:
“I am calm and focused.”
These small rituals encourage mindfulness. They create moments where you consciously check in with yourself instead of rushing through the day.
Sometimes that pause is exactly what we need.
Choosing Your First Crystal
If you’re just beginning your crystal journey, don’t overthink it.
Visit a crystal shop, browse slowly, and notice which crystal catches your attention.
Maybe it’s the colour.
Maybe it’s the shape.
Maybe you simply keep coming back to the same one.
Many people say they don’t choose the crystal; the crystal chooses them. Whether you believe that literally or simply see it as trusting your own instinct, allowing yourself to choose intuitively can make the experience more personal.

Crystals and the Chakras
Last month we explored the seven chakras and how they are traditionally believed to support our overall wellbeing.
Many people enjoy pairing crystals with specific chakras during meditation or Reiki:
- Crown Chakra – Clear Quartz
- Third Eye Chakra – Amethyst
- Throat Chakra – Lapis Lazuli
- Heart Chakra – Rose Quartz or Green Aventurine
- Solar Plexus Chakra – Tiger’s Eye or Citrine
- Sacral Chakra – Carnelian
- Root Chakra – Black Obsidian
These associations come from holistic traditions and spiritual practices rather than scientific evidence, but many people find they provide a helpful focus during relaxation.
Simple Ways to Use Crystals Every Day
Using crystals doesn’t have to be complicated.
You could:
• Carry one in your pocket.
• Keep one beside your bed.
• Place one on your desk.
• Hold one during meditation.
• Use one while practising slow breathing.
• Create a calming space at home with candles, plants and your favourite crystal.
- Wear them as jewellery
The important thing isn’t where the crystal sits; it’s the mindful pause it encourages.
Looking After Your Crystals
Many people enjoy caring for their crystals as part of their wellbeing routine.
Traditional methods include:
- Leaving them in the moonlight overnight.
- Resting them on a Selenite plate.
- Using the sound of a singing bowl or gentle chime.
- Simply holding the crystal quietly while setting a new intention.
Avoid placing your crystal in water or prolonged sunlight, as some minerals can become damaged or fade over time.
Crystals and Reiki at Lynne’s Zen Room
During a Radiance treatment (Reiki and Crystal Therapy), carefully selected crystals are placed around or gently on the body while Reiki is offered.
The crystals are chosen to complement the relaxing atmosphere and the session’s intention. Every treatment is tailored to the individual, creating a peaceful environment where you can let go of everyday pressures.
Many clients leave feeling deeply relaxed, lighter, and refreshed. Each experience is personal, and there is no expectation of what you should or shouldn’t feel.
The most important thing is giving yourself permission to rest.
Bringing More Calm into Everyday Life
Crystals remind us that wellbeing doesn’t always require dramatic changes.
Sometimes it’s about the small moments.
Lighting a candle.
Taking three slow breaths.
Holding a favourite crystal.
Sitting quietly for five minutes before the day begins.
These gentle habits can help us feel more grounded and present, especially when life feels busy or overwhelming.
Whether you view crystals as beautiful pieces of nature, meaningful symbols or companions in your mindfulness practice, they can encourage something many of us forget to do: slow down.
And perhaps that’s their greatest gift.
